A Tribute

I know this movie is so old. Let’s just call this a flashback movie blog edition.

First off, my heart still hurts. I somehow thought, in my crazy mind, that Prince was immortal. I actually thought there might be a chance of me going to see him live this year.  When Michael Jackson died, I only allowed myself to think about Prince dying for a split second. Because I didn’t want to think about it. It’s not going to happen.  And then….it did. Prince was the music of my childhood. That says a little something because his lyrics were not something a child should really be paying attention to … but I never paid attention to the lyrics. It was the music. When I got older, I appreciated him more. Self taught, the stories that his music told…not always popular but he didn’t care. He was a rebel. And I love rebels. Especially in artistry. I won’t get into him as a humanitarian, which was more reason why I was a fan, because I don’t want to get weepy again. Look it up. He wouldn’t let anybody talk about it in public while he was alive but there are countless stories out there now.

Now, when this movie came out, I didn’t pay attention to it because I was too young. I paid attention to the music though. Didn’t understand a word of it, but I remember liking it. I started appreciating the movie and the music in the later high school years.

The acting was …. Not good. Honestly. But I really liked the story.  And if you have a good story, you can kind of push through a movie. The images/costuming/settings were also good. But the story and the music are what makes this movie a classic. It is hard to imagine anybody not having seen this movie. But I am sure there are some. But please see it, at least once. Especially if you are a music lover.

How many times did I watch this movie over the weekend? I stopped counting. I can only watch bits though. I still haven’t made it all the way through of him singing “Purple Rain” yet. I’m sure in time I will.
